Sex and the City: Why we love it

Sex and the City

Or rather, why I love Sex and the City. It is classic. To me, it screams 'girl power'. So many episodes have the ability to just pull me in, no matter how many times I've seen them. I got to thinking about what makes the show so appealing to me and just so damn amazing. What it all boils down to are a few key things that women have a passion for.

Friendship

Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte are all such incredibly different people in almost every way. Miranda is the sarcastic lawyer. Samantha is the sex-obsessed tell it exactly how it is type. Charlotte is such an innocent-seeming romantic, a dreamer. Carrie is more the glamorous girl-next-door type that you feel like you relate to but can't always figure out why.

With all women being so opposite from one another, they still manage to be such great friends, but even more so - they portray real friendship. They have each other's backs. They gossip, they laugh, and most importantly, they fight. They fight like real friends. 

You watch an episode of Sex and the City and you instantly wish you had three best girl friends to go on crazy adventures with, to share your love stories, to go out for cocktails with. Or maybe you're already lucky enough to have that. 

Love and Sex

Sex and the City is filled with romantic love scenes, steamy sex scenes and lots of hot men. 

There's poor Charlotte, where you just want to see her dreams of marriage and children come true. You want to see her happily married and finally starting a family, but that doesn't work out very well for her in the beginning. 

There's Miranda and Steve, who at times seem so wrong for each other, but other times seem so perfect. Steve, who seems so much like a lovable puppy dog that you can't help but root for, and feel bad for him no matter what he does. 

And Samantha. She's always getting herself into sexy situations, and sometimes there are little teasers - when she's sleeping with a guy and their 'fling' starts to show signs of a real relationship. You never know what's going to happen with Samantha. 

Right away they gave us Carrie and Mr. Big. You want to love Mr. Big. You're wanting it to work out for him and Carrie, but he just can't seem to make it work. They throw in Aidan. Gorgeous, sweet Aidan.

Which brings up the age-old question: Aidan or Mr. Big? 

Clothes and Shoes

Gorgeous shoes, gorgeous clothes. Glamour. The illusion of such a fabulous life. You just can't watch an episode of Sex and the City without wishing you could get your hands on something one of the girls is wearing, or get to do some crazy exciting thing that they're doing. They give off such a 'glamour vibe' which is such a nice fantasy to live in for awhile.

Especially for someone like me who sometimes spends a day or two wearing pjs, with my hair pulled back in a mess with spit up on my shoulder and baby drool on my sleeve. Sex and the City: happiness on my tv.

Slap that all together with some funny quotes and hilarious situations and you've got a recipe for perfection.

Big Brother is over and fall shows are soon starting

I haven't really talked much about TV on here. Consider yourselves lucky. I've been obsessed with Big Brother. 
And now it's over. I'm pretty sad about it, but couldn't be happier about how it ended. 
I've always been the type who tends to root for the underdog (I despise that saying though), so despite how incredibly immature and annoying they could be, I was a Brendon and Rachel fan last year, and again this year. It was nice that Brendon didn't go crazy this year and bully people like he did last year when Rachel was put out. Rachel's crying in the bushes and immature way of dealing with Daniele made up for it though. 
But through it all, I was still rooting for them. Well, no, I'll be honest. At one point (I don't remember what exactly it was they did) I was just hoping Jeff and Jordan would take the newbies' advice and put them up. They were even getting on my nerves. 
But Rachel won, and even though she pulled a lot of crazy, bitchy moves throughout the game, I think she totally deserved it. 
I was surprised that Jeff won the money for being America's favorite player. I figured it would be someone like Adam. Not that I can blame people for voting for him. I mean, he did show up in my dreams a few nights ago. Nothing dirty, I promise.

So my summer of tv is over. I'm sure I could get back into my old favorites like How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives, and Big Bang Theory, but having missed so much of all of their previous seasons (from working night shifts) I'd probably be lost. 
I can't believe it's the last ever season of Desperate Housewives though. Although they are kind of running out bad things that could possibly happen to these people. Hopefully there'll be some big shockers in this season. 
It might be time to get into some new shows, since I'll be spending the next year at home anyway. 
What shows are you excited about this fall? 

Samantha Who?

I have a new favorite show. Lucky for me, this one is a short one. 

I've gotten sucked into Desperate Housewives, House, Gilmore Girls, and those are LONG (seven seasons each, so far). My new favorite show is Samantha Who?, and it's a half-hour show, and only 2 seasons long. It ended in 2009.

Samantha (played by Christina Applegate) gets into a car accident and wakes up with amnesia. She can't remember anything about herself. It fun watching her learn about her old, evil self, and try to be a better person. It's also keeps me interested by making me wonder what's going to happen between her and ex-boyfriend, Todd, played by Barry Watson, who I have not seen since his 7th Heaven days.

It also stars Melissa McCarthy as Samantha's best friend from childhood. She played Sookie in Gilmore Girls and her character in Samantha Who? is similar, and just as lovable.

There is also an appearance from Mary-Kate Olsen for one episode. Yay..? I was a bit surprised. Didn't know either of the Olsen twins had done any acting in the past few years.

I'm currently in the middle of watching season 2 of this show and I'll be sad when it's over.

How I Met Your Mother

A show that I think I will always love.

How could you not fall in love with poor, hopeless romantic Ted?

Or Marshall and Lily, the most adorable couple ever.

I absolutely loved this show from the first time I saw it. Season one is amazing. I should know, I've watched it all a million times. It was the first show I ever bought on DVD, I loved it that much.

The first episode I ever watched wasn't the Pilot, it was 'The Duel'. But no matter where you jump in at season one - you're hooked. Whether it's the Pilot, where Ted sees a beautiful girl in the bar, Robin, and decides she's the ones he wants to marry. Or later on in the season when Barney approaches a girl from behind and dances with her all night, only to find out when she turns around that it's his cousin. Or when Ted and Marshall sword fight over who gets to keep their apartment once Marshall and Lily get married.

It's addicting.

Season two? Just as addicting. I think I may have loved season three just as much. But after that? It started to get cheesier by the episode. I still enjoy the show, and own all five seasons, but season 4-6 just get cheesier and stranger. I'm sad to admit it.

Barney is a tad bit annoying. The crazy emphasis on Robin's 'Canadian' traits are beyond annoying, especially to someone like me who is from Canada. Never in my life have I heard someone pronounce 'about' as "a boot'. EVER. I've also never heard anyone use the word 'hoser'.

Don't get me wrong - some of the newer episodes are great, but too many of them have a lot of annoying qualities.

No matter what, I'll always be a huge fan of the first few seasons of the show.

Farewell...

Things have been insane busy lately. But in 41 minutes it hits midnight, then it will be the day I go to Ontario. I am very very excited. 

Last night I got to see The Switch with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman. It wasn't the best movie in the world, but it was right up my alley. I loved it. It didn't hurt that I love Jason Bateman since Arrested Development. And from that google search I get the impression that a movie may be in the works. Sweetness. 

I finally got a new phone today. First, I'll show you the piece of work I've been using for the past 3 years. The Motorola Razr:

We had a good three years, but it was very basic, and the battery was on it's last life. I replaced it with this, the Samsung Wave:

Quite similar to the iPhone I'd been wanting all summer. I just can't stop playing with it. Oh, the joys of new toys. 

Tomorrow is my last shift, before I hop on a plane for the first time. I am very excited to get out there and visit new places and try new things. To be honest, it still hasn't hit that I'm leaving tomorrow. If only work wasn't in the way....

Tax Returns are Wonderful Things

I totally thought today was Tuesday for the past couple of hours. I even called in my schedule to my second job. At least I got it out of the way...

Today I got to work with an OJT (on the job training) student in the Hotel and Restaurant Mangement program that I was thinking of going into. Their class trip for the program is to go to Las Vegas. I'm quite jealous. He was a nice guy. The only problem was today being one of the slowest days ever so I had nothing to show him. I let him go home early.

But for my happy news... the boyfriend got his taxes done first thing this morning, then took a cab right to Future Shop and got us a new 40" HD tv. I'm quite excited, especially because I'm home alone from 4-10, before he takes over. I'm glad he finally got it. He's been wanting it forever.

I've been thinking more about my list and it's about time I get started with it. 2.75 years isn't that far from now. Especially if the world might end in 2012. Some that I'd like to get started on...
