Local robbery, armed with AIDS

Back in the spring there were a couple of armed robberies in the area. To some of you that may not sound like a big deal, but I'm from a really small area, and while places may get robbed here and there, it's still not common and a big deal when it does happen. These particular robberies happened on the same night, by the same couple. They were 'armed' with a syringe of what they said was AIDS infested blood. Basically, give me your money or I'll give you AIDS.

They robbed a video rental store and a hotel. A hotel very very close to the one I work at. I didn't bother me a whole lot when the story first got around the next day. I don't know why. It happened during the hours that I normally work, so it could've easily happened to me.

The woman has finally been sentenced, as I read in Thursday's paper. It didn't give any information on the male, but it was the woman who had the syringe anyway. The first time this worried me in anyway was when I read that she got sentenced to 14 months, with probation and community service afterwards. But 14 months. She gets ouf of jail when I go back to work after my maternity leave.

She didn't harm anyone while robbing, it was just the threat. So maybe this girl is harmless. Maybe she never would've been able to actually stab her needle into someone. But what if she was willing? What if either of the two workers that she robbed had resisted, or something hadn't gone her way? Is there really any way of knowing? Not really.

The article goes on about how she was in tears the entire time she was in court. She took complete responsibility for her actions and pleaded guilty. She hates what she did. The article said she was under the influence of cocaine at the time and that she suffers from depression and what not.

But what if she doesn't learn her lesson in 14 months? What if another day down the road she tries some cocaine again on a bad day and tries out the robbing thing again?

I don't think I'll lose any sleep over this, but while reading it I couldn't help but wonder 'what if'?

Do you think 14 months is enough jail time for armed robbery?

Letters of Intent

Foursons

Dear Lady
(who has a meeting here tomorrow)

Don't come up to me demanding to see the manager unless you actually need to see a manager. A simple "our meeting is supposed to be advertised outside, but isn't" would've sufficed. I got that done for you, no manager needed. No need in pointlessly freaking me out.

Dear NaNoWriMo,

You are a lot of work when I am sick. You are lucky I managed to pound almost 2000 words into the keyboard last night, while falling asleep. You are harder than I expected, since I can't get time alone to write, but I am still ahead of the game.

Dear Jessie

You have been a great car to me for the past 3 years. I've enjoyed our time together. I thought you did, too, but lately you've been making me think otherwise.

You see, when you refuse to stop when I push your brakes, it makes me think that you might be trying vehicle suicide. When you get really shaky when we're driving, it makes me think that maybe you're trying to kill both of us, and not just yourself. And I know it's not your fault that your back tire keeps getting the air knocked out of you, but that's just life Jessie. No need to get depressed over it. I promise you are getting fancy new winter tires soon. Maybe even tomorrow. You just have to take is easy and not get so upset until then.

I hope you will enjoy hanging out with my grandfather for a few days. He gets along a lot better with cars than I do. And I promise when I'm driving my grandfather's car, Olive, that I don't like her more than you. You will always be my favorite.

Signed,
Girl who is scared for both of our lives

Case of the Missing Money

I managed to get myself in a sort of situation. It's like payback for me saying my life wasn't very exciting.

Long story short, an envelope of money that was given to me to give to someone else, is missing.

Of the staff I've talked to so far, no one has ever even seen the envelope.

I don't even remember the exact spot that I put it to be stored, just that it was one of 2 places.

I know I did not take the money, nor did I move it from the spot I put it.

But the bottom line is, I'm the only one who has admitted to seeing this money since it was given. I have one co-worker left to question, and one bin of paper left to search.

I don't know what's going to happen with this. Just that it's not good. There are only a handful of ways this can end.

A. I get fired
B. I have to pay the money back
C. The money turns up, and all is right with the world
D. A combination of the above
E. None of the above, but I shall remain known as the loser of the important envelope

Either way, I'm stressing.

Now who has fundraising ideas? Words of advice?

Feel free to click on some ads for my favorite tv shows. This lady is feeling desperate.

How quickly things can go bad

I kind of learned the meaning of a bad day today.

First, let's start off with Saturday night. I was working, and quite enjoying it. I was in one of those super-good moods. Then it hit me. I just had these weird pains/cramps in my upper stomach, kind of under my ribcage. I survived the rest of my shift, went home. I had a hard time sleeping, because of the pain. I

t was less intense, but still with me all day yesterday.

It wasn't really constant, thank God. Just a little pain here and there. Even today, it was still here. It part pain/cramping, and partly feels like it's about to be a hunger pain, the way it feels right before it growls, even though I had just eaten plenty.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find out if a persistent stomach pain is serious? Obviously I did not want to go to the hospital or to a clinic and wait for hours. Been there, done that. I need to be really scared for my life to go through that.

It's finally gone, thank God. Just in the past couple of hours.

Hallelujah! I'm not dying (I hope!)

But all that had me in a not so happy mood.

We have a family staying at the hotel right now. I just talked to the mother a few minutes ago. They got a call last night that a close family friend died, he was only 27. In the middle of that shock, they forgot about something they were cooking, which brings them here. There isn't any structural damage to their house, just a lot of smoke damage.

It's just like a reminder how quickly things can go from normal to crazy. And how my little problems are compared to what they could be.

Not that I've been having many problems. I'm a happy girl lately.

Firetrucks, cookies, and hookers, oh my!

My last couple of days sounds like they were more exciting than they actually were.

A. Firetrucks:
Showed up at work yesterday when something going on with the renovations set off the fire alarm. The alarm was loud, and they couldn't get it to shut off for a full 5 minutes or so, but really it was a yawn moment.

B. Hookers:
Were apparently brought to the hotel after I checked in two guys the other night. I found out from the night auditor. They checked in at 11:30, was a noise complaint around midnight, two women left shortly after, and they checked out around 12:30. One of the guys came back shortly after the get his really expensive video camera pen big pen that he forgot in the room. Very creepy.

C is for cookie, it's good enough for me.
Oh! cookie, cookie, cookie starts with "C". But seriously, I bought these super sale ($0.47 a pkg) cookies because they have cute little bunnies on them, and bunny season is over! And they taste great! I see another package of these cookies in my future, when we grocery shop tomorrow. (Ps, I removed the background of the picture with my new photoshop!)

D. Monopoly.
Is that game that I lost, to my boyfriend. I have never won. But we played the WHOLE game. I lost when I landed on one of the first properties (the purple.. Baltic Ave?), which boyfriend was calling The Ghetto. He said I lost all my money in the drug house in the ghetto.

E. What Not To Wear.
Such an amusing show. The girl shopping doesn't like the bow on a dress, so Stacey and Clinton tell her to think of her as a gift to mankind. She liked that. Watching this show just irritates my "needs to shop" gland. Not good. Payday is tomorrow. I plan to buy a $28 dress. I've seen some at two different stores and I can't wait to drag them all to the fitting room.

Hotel Affairs

The hospitality industry is an exciting place to work. On normal days, my hotel job is an enjoyable one. Sometimes I'm forced to "quiet down" partying parents, here with their children for a sports tournament. Sometimes I have to yell for kids to stop playing in the pile of brand new furniture, for the millionth time, even though there is a sign clearly stating that room is off limits.

I got several calls tonight from the same woman. She wasn't friendly, but did seemed normal - for the first 5 or so phone calls. The man in the room wasn't answering. Finally, she asked me to pass along a message - that his dog was hit by a car. He seemed a big flustered and such when I passed along the message, but he said he would call her back.

If only that's where the story ended.

She called back 15 or so minutes later. We will call the couple Beatrice and Felix.

Beatrice: Did you pass along the message?

Myself: Yes, I did. He said he would call.

Beatrice: Well, he didn't. Obviously he doesn't care. Can you transfer me to the room?

Myself: *hits the appropriate buttons*

I find the situation awkward, but nothing too extreme. Then Beatrice calls me again.

Beatrice: Was there anyone in the room when you went to give him the message?

Myself: *now feeling very awkward* No, I didn't see anyone, but I didn't really see inside the room.

Beatrice: Did a woman come to you asking where Felix's room was?
Myself: *short pause as I remember just that*. No.

Beatrice: Someone would have to speak to you to find out where he is?
Myself: Unless they were talking to him, and he told them where he was.

Beatrice: Can you do me a huge favor? Otherwise, I will have to get in my car and I will be there in 2 and a half hours. Nobody wants that, especially me.
She paused a lot, making everything twice as awkward, and proving that even she knew what she was asking of me was wrong.

Myself: That depends on what.

Beatrice: Do you know what his vehicle looks like? *gives a description* Can you go check if there is a *gives description of another vehicle that I don't remember* is parked next to it?

Myself: Honestly, there is a big group here of over 200 people. The parking lot is packed.

Beatrice: Still, her vehicle would probably be parked next to his.

She gave up and got me to transfer her to his room yet again. Story over, so far. I am happy that this happened at 10 pm. Because 2 and a half hours from 10 pm, means I'll have been out of here for a half an hour if she does show up. I'm definitely telling the night auditor to keep me informed of the gossip.
