Crafting Sunday - Mod Podge and a Picture Frame

Scrapbooking Sunday Crafting Sunday. Cause I haven't been scrapbooking, and I want to share some other things I've been playing with on Sundays. This is what I've created this weekend. 

Cheap Mod Podge picture frame. 

I just recently heard of Mod Podge, like two days ago and had to rush right out and try it. As usual, I was too rushed to take a before photo, but I bought a basic wooden picture frame that looks like this kind of (this is the back of the frame :p)

Before: 

Materials:

- Wooden frame - Michael's, on sale at $0.66 CDN, regular $1.00

- Purple acrylic paint for the sides

- One 12 x 12 sheet of scrapbooking paper

- Mod Podge matte (except I hear you should use the 'paper' formula when actually working with paper)

- Flower embellishment (I had a whole pack of these laying around $1.00 at the Dollarama)

- Small piece of ribbon ($0.59 for the roll of ribbon at Michael's)

Paint the outer and inner edges until you're happy with it, and let dry. 

Place the frame facedown on the paper you're using to cover it, and trace it. 

Cut the paper out, just a bit on the inside of the lines. You don't want the paper to hang over the edges. (Mine did, so my edges are all messy looking now after trying to fix them with a blade afterwards)

Apply a nice layer of Mod Podge to the paper with a paint brush, then stick it onto the frame. 

Smooth out those bubbles like it's nobody's business. Give it a little while to dry. 

Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the front of the paper now. Mine got bubbly, and I thought the project was ruined, but I left it because it was time to go to work. I got home to see that the paper had flattened itself out again, so I went on with the project. I added another layer of the 'Podge, which bubbled the paper more, and not all of it went away this time but I still liked it. 

Let it dry, then glue on your decorations. I'm horrible with a glue gun and made messes of it, but hopefully you can do a better job. Let that dry as well and I guess you're done.

This was a first try for me and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I painted a Super Mario Star

I recently took up painting, as you might know. I didn't finish my wood block yet, but I did start two projects and complete one. The completed one is the star in Super Mario. It's for the baby's Super Mario themed room. I just need to stick something to the back to hang it. 

Here is the set of the three completed stars:

Materials Used:

- Wooden star (Michael's for $1.69 CDN)

- Bright yellow, white & black acrylic paints ($0.69 each)

- Black paint marker to touch up eyes ($4 at Wal-Mart)

Total cost: Approx. $9 for one star, $13 for three big stars

I don't think they look too bad for a first try. 

Ignore the glare around the white in the eyes in the bottom photo - I used a permanent marker to fix up the imperfections on the first star, but got a paint marker later on to fix that. 

All three were hand painted with acrylic paints - a few coats of yellow, eyes drawn on in pencil, two coats of black, then two coats of white. Then tracing around the black edges with a paint marker.

Pick my Colors!

Here are my plain baby blocks (bought at Michael's for $3 each, but at 40% off), ready to be sanded and painted. I got big bottles of white, pink, yellow, purple, and blue paint (and can get any others) but now I want your help.

What colors should I use for the outside borders, the letters, and the inner squares? I want each block to be different, while still matching. I was thinking plain white for the inner squares, but how should I do the rest? Help needed!

Ps - My photoblog is up to date with my Project 365 entries. I already missed a day, but I'm keeping on. 

Sunday's Random Thoughts

Baby is kicking up a storm. Probably because we are both hungry. Food is on the way though.

Feet swelling are back. I guess that's going to haunt me for my entire pregnancy.

I took up painting. It was a pretty random choice. I bought a cheap wooden block and decided to make a little sign with it. Once I buy the mini wooden letters, paint and glue them on I think it will say 'Nessa's Space' and I'll hang it wherever I set up my desk and craft area. So far this is what I have:

With so much going on in the pattern I'll probably make my letters white and maybe outline them in black. 

I made address labels last night at work so today I glued them all to the envelopes. For my baby shower, I mean. So far I have the addresses of almost 25 people. I didn't think I would be inviting so many. It's safe to assume more than half won't be coming though. 

There's nothing worse than going to the beach on a nice day then it being so windy that the sand hurts your legs. Except maybe driving to the beach on a nice day and having it start raining when you get there. Only the first of the two happened to me today though. 

In 9 days I find out if I'm having a boy or a girl. The appointment is at 6pm. I'll probably barely be able to sit still all day. I'm pretty excited. Guess what I'm having here to enter the giveaway. 

It seems like Blogger is working today so I can comment on all blogs again, not just certain ones. Hopefully it lasts this time. Annoying Blogger. *Just as I finished this paragraph, Blogger wouldn't save this post to my drafts, or publish it. I can't win*

I'm still addicted to Gossip Girl. I'm almost ready to start season 3, then I'll have to find something else to occupy my time.

I wish days off didn't go by so fast. Even when I spend most of the day wishing I wasn't stuck alone.
