Long weekends are better with friends and family

I spent my first few days of maternity leave visiting family in friends in another city.

I stayed with my Mom and her boyfriend in their spare room. The first morning there I went shopping with mother. She helped me pick out the last few things I needed for the baby, nursing related stuff. We did a little bit of clothes shopping, where I didn't go too crazy but she did. I got a couple of loose tops for after baby, a pair of sweat pants, and a t-shirt for $20. They had all kinds of deals if you bought two of certain things, so we mixed and matched stuff we wanted so we could get the deals. I love shopping with Mom. How many people can say they bought two of the exact same shirts as their mother, and that's perfectly normal.

When we got home we went for a drive with her boyfriend, did a quick walk around the tourist shops, and went out for Chinese food. The next day I went with my friend S. and her two sisters to take some photos of them to frame for their mother and father. I haven't started editing the photos yet, but a lot of then turned out nice. It was a gorgeous day for it.

When we got back to town we met up with a friend for a few minutes, then picked up my sister and nephew and had pizza buffet. We ended up keeping my nephew at Mom's for the night. He watched Big Brother with me then woke me up nice and early in the morning.

We hung out all day but still I was sad to drop off sister and nephew and make the hour long drive back home. It's so strange to think that the next time I see any of my family I will have the baby. Except for Mom - because she had better BE THERE when I have the baby. Nephew gave my belly a hug before he left. We told him the next time he saw Auntie the baby wouldn't be in her belly anymore. The night before he kept rubbing my belly while we were watching tv. Once he even told me "I love the baby." He says he's going to share his toys with her when she's born. I love that boy to pieces.

How strange that I could have a baby any day now. Very very strange. Someone needs to get it through to her that she needs to turn her little body around though.

How sweet your post is today. It brings back a flood of memories from my own waiting for baby to turn around some 41 years ago. Same thoughts of, "I can't believe I will have a baby this time next week." How amazing and miraculous life is. I wish you the best and thank you for the walk down memory lane.

Congratulations on almost seeing your little one - take it from a mom who's been there before, go to the movies one more time, stroll through the mall one time, and eat dinner out one more time - you will do these things again but it will never be quite the same as having no worries
