Ignorant People of Facebook

I have such low tolerance for people who don't know how to use a 4 way stop. People who don't use their brain. Parents who let their children run wild. Christmas music. Pretzels.

Did I mention people who don't use their brain?

If you have facebook, then you must have heard of the cartoon character profile picture craze that went on.

"Please change your facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Monday (December 6), there should be no human faces on facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is for violence against children"

No one really knows where it all started, although there is this facebook group that is part of it.

At first, it was kind of inspiring to watch even the people most unlikely to participate in such nonsense, actually take part. I saw so many pictures of cartoons from my past. The walk down memory lane alone was a nice part of it.

There are many many people that argue that changing your profile picture to a cartoon character does nothing.

That is true.

Then do something about it! Donate. Most people who changed their photos,  I would assume did not donate. But I right now will admit that I am not likely to wake up one morning and say "Hmm, I want to donate money. I'm going to a cause that I believe in at random and donate to that today." No, that's not how my mind works. How my mind works is I see something like that, trying to raise awareness for child abuse and such, and I am inspired to donate. So yes, changing my picture did nothing. But seeing all those pictures being changed, made me want to donate a lot more than doing nothing. The purpose was to make people aware, and that it did.

Then there was this message, and all of it's even worse variations (and even worse spelling of pedophile - I saw paedophile and pedofile in many):

I am the commenter in green, the same woman is blue in both photos.

I am just amazed at how quickly some people are to believe something like this.

A. There is no proof whatsoever to back up that this was started by pedophiles. ff there was any chance of this being true, it would be all over the news, both on tv and online

B. The only information you can find on it, is that it is simply to raise awareness, not make pedophiles have an easier time preying - CBS & Texas news reports clip on YouTube

C. How would everyone having their profile pictures as cartoons help out the pedophiles? Wouldn't that make it harder for them to pick out the children from the adults?

D. If you believe this to be true, then maybe you should be speaking to your children about internet safety.
E. Research before you blindly repost something one idiot decided to spread around

The best response to the 'pedophile' rumor:

Like I said, I just have a low tolerance for ignorant people. But good job to the large number of people who spread around every crazy thing they read. It was a great attempt at ruining a good thing.

Facebook has some really uniquely stupid people on it. Sure, the cartoon thing really does nothing but cause people to think briefly about child abuse (no lasting affects), but it caused no harm. People are so stupid. Seriously.
